Let's talk about: An Ideal Husband

An Ideal Husband is based on the play written by Irish playwright Oscar Wilde.
It revolves around the lives of political figure Sir Robert Chiltern (Jeremy Northam), his adoring wife Lady Gertrude Chiltern (Cate Blanchett), his sister Miss Mabel Chiltern (Minnie Driver), his friend Lord Arthur Goring (Rupert Everett), and Mrs. Laura Cheveley (Julianne Moore).

Sir Chiltern is living the perfect life. Everyone thinks he is a perfect man, politician, and husband.

Lord Goring is quite the opposite. He makes a life of lounging around, trying to avoid his father, and flirting.

Their world is disrupted with the arrival of Mrs. Cheveley as she is trying to blackmail Sir Chiltern in a way that could cause him to lose everything he has, including his wife.

What follows is a lot of mix ups and secrets and laughs.
It is revealed that Sir Chiltern is actually far from perfect and that there is more to Lord Goring than meets the eye.
It asks the question what does make an ideal husband?

While the cast is excellent in almost every way (I am not a huge Julianne Moore fan) my favorite scenes are always those with Lord Goring, Miss Mabel Chiltern, and Lord Goring's father Lord Caversham (played by John Wood).
Those three bring the whole movie together for me.
Can I say right now that I would love to see Rupert Everett and Minnie Driver do a million movies together.

They play off of each other so well. I have a huge smile on my face for pretty much the entirety of every scene they are in together.

And I love the conversations he has with his father in the film.

Lord Caversham: "Do you always understand everything you say?"
Lord Goring: "Yes... if I listen attentively."

Lord Goring:  "I'm sorry, Father, but the truth is, this is not my day for talking seriously."
Lord Caversham: "Well, what do you mean, sir"
Lord Goring: "I mean that I only talk seriously on the first Tuesday of every month. Between noon and three."

I find this to be a very enjoyable, lighthearted, fun movie.

I think you will really enjoy it.
